 2023 Preview 


       Faith Academy completed the 2022 season with a 11-3 record. With their 6-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region one, the Rams earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Faith Academy made a nice playoff run in 2022, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Charles Henderson team by the score of 27-12.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Faith Academy ranked 5th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 9.9 points a game.

       Since 2010, Faith Academy has gone a combined 68-74. Their 47.9% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Faith Academy has managed to compile a record of 148-126. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 5A and 147th in the AHSAA.




       The Rams are led by head coach Jack French who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 47-16 over the past five seasons at Faith Academy. Under his direction the Rams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach French. His 306 wins rank 5th among active coaches in the AHSAA. The win total includes 110 wins in Alabama and 196 victories from outside the state. Over the course of his career, Coach French's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won one region championship.

       Coach French has built a winner at Faith and this could be his best team yet in Mobile. Look for Faith to be a force not only in region one but if they can find some depth from the younger players they will be in contention for a trip to Tuscaloosa in December.

       The Rams are considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Rams are making another deep run into the playoffs.

      

      QB Jarrett Daughtry will be returning after completing 159 of 234 passes for 2,350 yards last season along with 21 touchdowns.

      Receiver Tynean Goodwill will return after grabbing 58 passes good for 916 yards and 11 TDs as a junior last season. Tyrell Dotson will also be back at WR and DB.

      Edwin King will lead the defense this season after collecting 113 total tackles and six sacks last season. Carson Ratliff collected 118 tackles and 6 sacks. Mark Jackson will anchor the offensive line.

       The Rams open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent J.A.G. on Friday, August 25 at Ram Field. Last year the J.A.G. Volunteers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 7A region two. The Volunteers closed out the regular season with a loss to Dothan High by a score of 41-12.

       This will be the second meeting between Faith Academy and J.A.G. on the football field. The Rams have a 1-0-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 1988 with

       Faith Academy lost 5A All-State  athlete Christian Burnette to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate offensive lineman DeMare Moore.

       The Rams return 5A All-State Senior receiver Ty Goodwill. He was named to the second team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Collinsville completed the 1931 season with a record of 1-4-5. The five ties will forever be a state record since all games are now decided by overtime.
